Permanent Make-up Frequently Asked Questions

Information About Permanent Make-Up (Micropigmentation)

  • How do I choose a Permanent Make-up Technician?
Ask for a consultation first. Look at the technician's permanent make-up...how does it look. Ask for the names and phone numbers of clients who are willing to speak with you about their experience and ask to see the technician's portfolio. It is important to have the technician demonstrate, with topical make-up, how the permanent make-up will look. If the technician can not draw on the make-up to your satisfaction, then they probably cannot tattoo it on either.
  • If the make-up is permanent, then why will I need a retouch?
In order to keep permanent make-up looking natural, lighter-blended colors are used. The lighter the pigment chosen, the faster it will fade. Eyeliner, and lip color have the longest longevity, approximately 7 to 10 years, depending upon the color used. Eyebrows will not need a touch up for 2 to 4 years for fair skinned individuals and 4 to 7 years for darker skinned people. Some of the variables that affect longevity include the depth of pigment, color selected, skin type, and proper post care. Permanent Make-up is not treated like body art.

  • What is the difference between the Manual method and the Machine method?
The manual method of permanent make-up application is performed without the machinery and the technician provides power behind the pen. The procedure is similar to pen and ink application. There are many different kinds of machines on the market, from traditional tattoo guns to the newer, lighter weight machines. Both techniques, if performed correctly, deposit pigment into the dermis layer of the skin. Both techniques have benefits and limitations, which your qualified technician can discuss with you.

  • What if I change my hair color or decide I want my lips a different color?
Since permanent make-up is designed to act as an enhancement to your natural features, wearing topical make-up is an option. But isn't it nice to know that it is a choice, rather than a necessity! Colors for permanent make-up are selected to harmonize with your natural skin tones, rather than your current hair color. No matter what color your hair is, your permanent make-up will always look natural.

  • Does it hurt?
The sensation can be compared to tweezing. A topical anesthetic is used for eye and brow applications. A dental block is recommended for lip color procedures. However, with the new PUREBEAU™ machine, permanent make-up is virtually painless.

  • How does the application of permanent make-up affect future plastic surgery?
Properly placed permanent make-up has no effect on plastic surgery, however, the key is that permanent make-up needs to be properly placed!
